I remember summer nights in years gone by
We would flit like shadows when the moon was high
Innocent and carefree roaming near and far
Catching lots of firelies and puttin' 'em in a jar.

We chased 'em thru the schooyard and between the neighbors cars
All the while pretending we were catching falling stars
Never realizing those times would soon be gone
Like a firefly's luminescence vanishing at dawn

CHORUS:
Firefly days, where have they flown?
Retreated into memories as soon as we were grown
Our Firefly days, so sublime
Ran away with Childhood
And vanished into Time

Late at night we'd lie awake watching grass-filled jars
Where fireflies were twinkling like a galaxy of stars
Delighted with that treasure we knew we'd never keep
Richer than King Midas 'til we finally fell asleep

When morning came we always let our treasure fly away
Never realizing how life's a lot that way
Treasures come and treasures go; loves are won and lost
And after summer's glory, comes the winter frost

REPEAT CHORUS 2X

Firefly nights, and firefly days
Ran away with Childhood
And vanished in the haze
