Back at good old Indiana University School of Music where I majored on trumpet of all things, I had to pass a piano proficiency exam. I faked piano playing very well then, and I do it even better now. Borsalino had a baby grand, so I switched off on piano for some Billy Joel etc. I think the change of pace kept the crowd from going to sleep entirely.

But one of those in the crowd was the founder of St. Petersburg's well-known and now defunct City Bar - a smoky beer joint much more suited to the likes of me. The following summer my daughter waitressed at City Bar, which brought me into it for the first time, and after various discussions I ended up playing the 2005 Labor Day Bash. I played there ocasionally until the place closed down in Summer of 2008.
